I am a British citizen born in England on 27 February 1995. My parents were born in Sri Lanka. I have a younger sister born in England on 3 March 2003. She likes Avatar a lot too. I lived in England for my decade of childhood. In the summer of 2005, we came to Sri Lanka. In January or February of 2009, we went to Cambodia. In the summer of 2009, we went back to Sri Lanka. Just last year in the summer, we came to Bali, Indonesia. My school in Sri Lanka was the Overseas School of Colombo (2005-2008) (2009-2010) and Wycherley International School (2010-2011). My school in Cambodia was Logos International School. My school in Indonesia is Gandhi Memorial International School.
I first watched Avatar when I was eleven. It appeared on the Sri Lankan channel as Avatar: The Legend of Aang. I think the first episode I watched the Winter Solstice Part II. I used to watch Avatar on a regular basis during the first semester of Grade 6 - that would be August-December 2006. I watched all the episodes in Book One from "The Boy in the Iceberg" to "The Blue Spirit". I felt I was always spiritually with the characters on their adventures in their universe (that includes Zuko), seeing as I shared Aang, Katara, and Sokka's views on world peace and felt so attached to them and the world in which they lived. I was always sympathetic to Zuko. I was thinking "He just wants to go home. Aang, just surrender yourself to Zuko so he can go back to the Fire Nation, then bust yourself out, or make a deal with Zuko for this to happen". I never suspected that Jet was evil. I honestly thought Jet was a good guy and that Katara and Jet made a good couple.
I did not watch Avatar again until when I was twelve. Before that, I researched the story on the web and learned about Toph and Azula. I remembered Toph's face, but I don't think I read her name. I also learned Sozin, Azulon, and Ozai's names. I learned as well about the term "Agni Kai". I also learned that Zuko defied his father and became good and that after joining Team Avatar, Zuko was warned by Katara that Katara would personally kill Zuko if Zuko ever harmed Aang again. I wasn't surprised at all - Zuko always seemed to me as a good guy. I watched the last three episodes and the first episode of Book One. Later, I watched Book Two, specifically from the "The Tales of Ba Sing Se" onward, but excluding the episode immediately after that. The last episode I watched was "The Crossroads of Destiny". When I watched "The Storm" this time, I saw Azula - I don't think I saw her last time I watched it.
The next time I watched Avatar was when I was sixteen. I watched the whole of Book Two except the first episode and random episodes in Book One of which all I had seen before, except for "Bato of the Water Tribe". When I was twelve, I didn't know Azula was evil. I thought she wore a neutral expression when Zuko's face was burned by Ozai. I never expected Azula to be the monster her mother seemed to think she was on - on the whole, I expected Azula to love her parents, her brother, and her uncle and to be attacking Team Avatar only on Ozai's orders. On the Internet, I read a lot about Avatar - I was thinking initially that if Vitani from the Lion King who played a similar role to Azula could become good from evil, that Azula could defy her father as Zuko did and become good. I was mistaken because I read on the Internet on the Wikipedia website for Korra that both Ozai and Azula were defeated in the end of the Avatar series. I also read about how the finale of the series was four episodes titled Sozin's Comet Parts I-IV, how Ozai became Phoenix King, how Azula became Fire Lord as a consequence, and that Azula was defeated in Sozin's Comet by Zuko and Katara.
When we came to Indonesia for holiday, my mum bought the the complete Avatar series. I got Mai and Ty Lee confused for each other when I watched Book Two the second time. I read in the Internet that Mai and Zuko would get together, so I was expecting for Ty Lee and Zuko to get together. I was sadly mistaken. :( When my sister and I were watching The Puppetmaster, I never imagined that Hama could be evil after it was revealed that Hama was from the Southern Water Tribe. When I read that Ozai and Azula were defeated, I took it to mean they were killed. I expected for Aang to kill Ozai and for Katara to kill Azula. I am disappointed that Ozai and Azula didn't die - those monsters deserve death, especially because this is unjustifiable after Zhao and Combustion Man died as villains and when the main villains got away with their lives.
