Time constraints prevented the director from creating an adequate plot. The lack of time was apparent with the lack of character development, the slow progression of the plot and the absence of many important characters, among others. Various scenes and actors differed from the ones in the series since the director had envisioned them differently and the ethnically diverse cast represents many different heritages and cultures from all corners of the globe.

Regarding the name pronunciations, M. Night Shyamalan wanted to stay true to the Asian culture, and as such, he decided to use the pronunciation of the characters' names the way they were intended to be. The series uses western pronunciations.
