The category system for Avatar Answers is not different from those of Avatar Wiki's. This guide simply details the correct usage of commonly misused categories.

Question categories Edit

These categories are used if and only if they are referenced in the title.

Anatomy Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions pertaining to the anatomy of a human or an animal.
Note that:

  • This category was originally called Human Body and therefore applicable to any questions relevant to it.
  • If the question leans more toward the appearance of the character, use Category:Appearances rather than Category:Anatomy.

For instance the question, "How many legs does a flying bison have?" would fall under Category:Anatomy as it is a specific inquiry about the body whereas the question, "What does a flying bison look like?" would fall under Category:Appearances as it is a general inquiry regarding the aesthetics of a character.

Appearances Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions pertaining to the appearance of certain characters in a piece of work (including episodes, publications and films) or the general appearance of a character or item.
Note that:

  • This category is a combination of Appearance (Beings) and Appearance (Items) to avoid any confusion.

Bending Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions that ask about bending itself.
Note that:

For instance the question, "Is it possible to remove bending?" would fall under Category:Bending as it is a general inquiry about bending, whereas the question, "Is it possible to remove bending by using a specialized form of waterbending?" would fall under Category:Bending abilities as it is a specific inquiry about the capacity of a bending art.

Names Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions that ask for a name or the meaning of a term without a corresponding category.

"Episode names" Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions that mention a specific episode name.
Note that:

  • Quotation marks must always be added around the names of episodes to properly denote them.

Character names Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions that mention a particular character with an already existing category, like "Aang" and "Korra".
Note that:

  • Existing titles found in Category:Titles, like "Avatar" and "Fire Lord", must not be added to character-specific questions unless they are mentioned explicitly in the question.

For instance the question, "What are Fire Lord Zuko's most notable decrees?" would fall under both Category:Fire Lord and Category:Zuko as both the title and the name are referenced by the question.

Non-existent categories Edit

These are categories not found in Special:Categories. These should not be added to any pages, unless there is sufficient canonical information and number of questions that could justify new categories.
Note that:

  • Indicators including "How", "Where", "What", "When", and "Who" are no longer added to questions.
  • "A to Z" and possibly any other non-applicable categories found in the Index category of Avatar Wiki are not added, as the answers portal is not big enough to warrant the need of such categories.
  • If there is no existing category for a specific topic, use general categories such as those found in Category:Question categories or their existing subcategories.

Publications Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions pertaining to any published work, such as graphic novels and art books.
Note that:

Real world Edit

This category is to be applied to all the questions that is relevant to the real world.
Note that:

Relationships Edit

This category is to be applied to all the questions pertaining to relationships of two or more characters.
Note that:

Versus Edit

This category is to be applied to all questions that refer to opinionated or canonical battles between characters.
Note that:

  • If there is very little or no canonical evidence to answer the question, a poll should be made and voted upon. Both Category:Poll and Category:Versus should be applied.
  • If there is sufficient canonical evidence to answer the question, or if the characters mentioned have already fought numerous times, a poll should not be used and an answer should be formulated based on the victor of the aforementioned altercations. Only Category:Versus should be applied.

Restrictions Edit

Under certain circumstances, most versus questions tend to lean too much on subjectivity. To avoid this, the following must be observed:

  • Should have an equal number of combatants.
  • Should be logical and sensible.
  • Combatants should be on the same generation.

An exception would apply if the battle is canonical.

Wiki categories Edit

These categories are not used in questions and are solely for grouping categories or for important wiki pages.
